This module has helped me to make differentiation between listening and active listening. Active listening plays an important role in building productive interpersonal relationships. Apart from these, I have come to learn about professional communication and five ethical guidelines namely communication should be clear, honest, and democratic. Additionally, I have come to know that good communication always respects its audience and it is always logical. I always make sure that my communication with client, society, and friends comply with all these ethics guidelines/principles. As stated by Gkorezis, Bellou, and Skemperis (2015), following communication ethics, I can reduce the conflicts and confusions among the people of my organization. In addition to this, intrapersonal and interpersonal communications are also learned by me. With the help of this, I came to know that interpersonal communication takes place between two p eople while intrapersonal refers to individuals feeling, thoughts, internal conversations, and emotions. I have learned about the organizational communication which is important for members to come together as well as to perform the given task in effective manner. Along with this, I came to know that communication helps to make understand employees, what is expected from them along with their duties and responsibilities. On basis of this learning, I will always make sure that I communicate effectively with my employees, so that they feel motivated and give their best in organizational growth and success. In week 2, I learned that, if a person has communication fear with some person, then it is said as communication apprehension. I came to know about what communication apprehension is and how I can reduce it. I came to know that, a speaker in a presentation is expected to answer the query raised by the audience, for which two minutes are taken extra while delivering the presentation. According to Hynes (2012), interpersonal communication is to have communication with one or more than one people. Also, I understand that I must be aware of my skills, ability, strength, and weakness in order to become better interpersonal communicator. Additionally, it is known as dyadic communication because it refers to the communication that takes place between two persons or more. Basically, it has six types namely impersonal, workplace, professional, professional, friendship, friends, and intimate. I got familiar with the term aggressive communication which can be general or situational. Also, it is negative style of communication which is the form of workplace bullying. I understand that verbal aggression can result in irritation, hurt feelings as well as relationship termination which results in decreased job satisfaction and engagement of employees. I came to know that passive communication is style of communication that characterized when person is unable to state a belief or opinion with confidence. Further, I identified reasons for this that include individuals simply confrontation avoidance along with fear of blame for being happy as well as silent to avoid conflicts. In addition to this, I understand that passive and active communications are two different terms. Passive communication includes imposing a person by the non-verbal and verbal acts which aim to avoid open conflicts. On the other hand, when I stand up for my own self without allowing another person to take my advantage and without others advance then it will be known as assertive communication. Additionally, according to DeKay (2012), muttering, sarcasm, facial expression that includes anger along with denying the problems are some of the reasons of passive-aggressive communication. In this unit, I examined about assertive problem-solving model which has six steps and model is helpful to solve conflicts. Also, socio-communication style and orientations with supportive and defensive communication climate were known by me. In socio-communication person see ones own behavior of communication in terms of his/her personality traits and the way individual examine actual communicative behavior of others are known as socio-communicative style. Moreover, I understood interpersonal communication that allows person to communicate with honesty and accurately is supportive communication while when person feels nervous or worried while communicating it is defensive communication. Week 5 has helped me a lot to get more familiar with interpersonal interaction along with making me understand differences between interpersonal and impersonal communication. Additionally, by the help of assertive communication and its model, I will be able to solve conflicts in my workplace successfully being a professional interpersonal conflict solver. Further, I can become more competent communicator by having knowledge of style of communication which will help me in my future also. Interpersonal relationship and supportive communication will benefit me to work actively and make be capable of completing my work successfully. In week 6, I came to know about organization communication and its function and structure in the organization. I understand that the organizational function includes communication coordination, control, and maintenance of organizational activities. It is because if there is no communication in the company it will impossible for members to come together and perform coordinated activities. I examined that communication is important to undertake particular task, work, and activity. In the words of Sievers et al (2015), internal organizational function includes socialization which is a process where members of the company come together to understand norms, regulations, values, and standards that are helpful to operate business. It can be formal or informal. Besides this, I understand that innovation is also the function of internal organization communication. As illustrated, communication related to improvement of practices in context to better serve the client will come under innovation function. I examined that organizational structure determines communication flow in the company. This is characterized by complexity, centralization, and formalization structure of company. As understood by me, communication channels are important to recognize communication path formally enforced and sanction by the organization. I came to know that there are four types of communication channels namely upward, downward, horizontal, and diagonal communication. In this week, I got familiar with the importance of horizontal communication which contributes to the organizational climate and have positive work atmosphere. This is the best communication channel among all as observed by me. Additionally, I understand that choosing right medium of communication includes many objectives such as feedback, variety of language, personal focus, and cues. The MRT Theory was also known to me as I was unfamiliar with this. Communication environment aspects were also known by help of this theory. I came to know that if I have equivocal message then I should choose face-to-face communication else I can send detail documents in an uncertain environment to reduce uncertainty. Dual Capacity Model of choosing communication media was also known to me that ample the set of different comprehensive factor that affects the available communication media. As per Dwyer (2016), constraints of communication capability, media characteristics, and the normative contingencies are basic areas to make this model. I came to know that message can be in the form of clarity, complexity, volume, relevance, and valence. Volume means quantity of information conveyed while valence states positive and negative of message and relevancy means how motivating and interesting message was. Recipient, organization, and communicator are general areas of capability constraints. Recipients include expertise level, familiarity with media, communication context knowledge while communicator capability relates to comfort, competence, flexibility, and access. The organizational characteristics include structure, experience, and time availability. In this, I understand the importance of various media and its use taking in view various aspects. This will benefit me by choosing right media to communication at right time. In week 7, I learned about how to plan, develop, and conduct an interview along with understanding, practicing ethical interviewing. I also learned about developing and recognizing various interview types with negotiation engagement. Difference between interview and conversation was known to me. As stated by Kleiman, and Benek-Rivera (2010), interview is pre-arranged, has defined structure in terms of question and answer with specific time, and location. On the other hand, conversation includes various communication actions with questions and answers. I understand that interview is conducted for some pre-defined purpose while motivating employees, and asking questions. The goal and purpose of interview were known, purpose includes evaluation, information, council, and persuade while interview goals are to hire person, change behavior of person, and make judgments. Also, interview sequence was learned by me and I came to know that there are four types of interview sequence. This includes funnel sequence which starts with open-ended questions and ends with close-ended questions. The inverted funnel includes close-ended question in beginning and moves to open-ended questions. I examined that diamond sequence consider both funnel and inverted sequence of interview while tunnel sequence is beneficial to have simple as well as surface interview information excluding in-depth interviews. Types of interview questions were known to me that includes open and close ended questions. Open-ended are asked to have detailed response of candidates while close ended are asked when standardization of high degree is needed. I examined that factual questions include relevant facts and information while opinion questions are asked to take opinion or judgment of a person on specific topic. I observed that interviewers must be able to identify their organization along with themselves. False pretenses for conducting interview should not be practiced by interviewers. Also, it is accepted that interviewers should inform candidates about their interview. I understand the main ethics related to interviewing is to use candidates information for stated purpose only. In future, I will be able to prepare, build up, and conduct effective interview. Most studies conducted with an objective to prevent the incidence of CVD in women highlight the fact that evidence-based practices are extremely vital for effective prevention of CVD. It is essential to take into account the "full range of available evidence" in order to de vise appropriate evidence-based practices for CVD prevention in a "diverse population of women" (Mosca et al., 2004, p. 673). Therefore, in their study, Mosca et al. attempted to develop guidelines for evidence-based practices for the prevention of CVD in women. ... ntion include "lifestyle interventions", "major risk-factor interventions", "preventive drug interventions", "atrial fibrillation/stroke prevention", and "Class III interventions". Lifestyle interventions include several interventions related to cigarette smoking, physical activity, etc. Women must be encouraged to abstain from smoking and also to avoid secondary smoking or environmental tobacco. About 30 minutes of physical activity (moderate intensity) such as brisk walking should be done on all days. Women who have had a recent coronary intervention or chronic angina should get involved in a "comprehensive risk-reduction regimen", which includes cardiac rehabilitation. They must be encouraged to maintain a healthy eating pattern complete with fruits, vegetables, fish, legumes etc, along with protein foods that are low in saturated fat. The intake of trans-fatty acids should be limited. Weight maintenance and reduction should be encouraged and a normal BMI and waist circumference s hould be maintained. Psychosocial factors such as depression, etc. should be regularly monitored and evaluated in women and they must be promptly treated whenever indicated. Supplementation of food intake with omega-3 fatty acids and folic acid is recommended for high-risk women. The interventions for major risk factors include maintenance of normal blood pressure through lifestyle changes, maintenance of an optimal blood pressure, apart from lipids and lipoproteins in blood. When the levels of LDL-C are elevated or in the case of high-risk women, life-style therapy and statin therapy are recommended. Sir Lynden Pindling lifted the ancient mace from the Speaker’s desk and said â€Å"This mace is the symbol of authority, and the authority for the islands belongs to the people, and the people are outside of this House and so this mace belongs outside too.† Sir Pindling threw the mace through the window while Sir Milo butler threw the two quarter hour glasses out of the same window. The P.L.P all stormed out of The House of Assembly, where they were welcomed by a crowed of their followers on Bay Street. It brought a halt for an hour or so, however after the mace was replace. Management of technology Essay

Explain the term â€Å"Technofact. † How can it be used to define Technology, and Management of Technology? Explain the value and advantage of the term Technofact, compared to other definitions and common agreement about technology. Explain the weaknesses, missing elements, and contradictions in this term. Technofact is a reproducible object created by humans. By reproducible I refer to any product (tangible or virtual) of which the intention of its human creator was to make more of exactly the same, using the same methodology. Once we’ve defined technofact, we are able to focus the term technology around this entity, and to define it as the capability of creating technofacts (or the human capability of creating reproducible objects). Technology is not the technical object itself but rather the capability of creating it over on over again. Other fields of science concentrate on understanding and gathering knowledge around the entity that is in the center of the science in question while the technology â€Å"science† is a capability, which is more than merely an understanding. On top of the knowledge gathered, the term encapsulates the creation itself, the know-how. The different aspects of the means to establish that capability ought to be coordinated and managed, thus, management of technology can only be defined if we separate the term technology from the objects, the technofacts, as one can not manage objects. Most of the traditional definitions of the term technology are either inaccurate or too broad. Inaccurate when the definition refer to objects (tools, products) as the technology itself. Too broad when the definition refer to any human activity (van Wyk), which might include forms of art that can not be considered as a technology. Another broad approach can be found in definitions that consider any nature manipulation as a technology (is navigation by stars a technology? ). There are three cases in which I find difficulty with the term technofact as the central entity that technology deals with: 1. When the product has an inherited random element: Consider a computer program that creates random melodies (or drawings) pleasant to the human ear (or eye), based on some mathematical rules. The program itself is obviously a virtual technofact, but are the new melodies or drawings created by it can also be considered technofacts? Obviously, they are being created over and over again using the same technology, but each time the program produces something different. 2. When the product is a natural object or resource: For example in agriculture. Carrots cannot be considered technofacts, but there is obviously a technology to grow carrots. The tools which are used in the process (a plow or a combine) are technofacts, which farmers use to produce the crop itself, but they are not the reproducible product the technology deals with. Another examples can be mining technologies. The end product is the extracted material, which can not be considered a technofact. 3. When the product is an action: For example, the capability to lift heavy weights. A crane is a technofact, but it is not the reproducible object this specific technology enable to reproduce. The reproducible object in this case is not an object but rather an action. What is a â€Å"Technology-Based Organization†? Give an example for a TBO and non-TBO. Can a company be a TBO for a limited time? Explain and give an example. A technology based organization is an organization that uses technology to create economic value or to create a competitive business advantage over other competing organizations. The organization can be continuously pursuing technological improvements, manufacturing technofacts or both. This kind of an organization will be perpetually considered a TBO. On the other hand a non-TBO organization can become one for a limited time, if it incorporates a new technology to improve its processes, thus creating an advantage over its competitors. During the process of assimilating the technology and the time that takes other players to use the same technology, a non-TBO organization can be considered a TBO, as it creates economic value using technology. Consider an imaginary traditional dairy that used to produce milk in the old milking fashion, using the farmer’s hands and a big nice bucket. At some point the farmer decided to acquire a milking machine from his engineer friend that had recently established a milking equipment factory using his own inventions. The farmer installed the machine in his farm and taught his kid how to use it, so he can peacefully retire. During the next couple of years, the farmer’s kid gained an advantage over his neighbor farmers, bought more cows, made a small fortune and established a new dairy company (which he called after his dad). Few years later, after all the other farmers had done the same, the farmer’s kid decided to install digital thermometers in the dairy (acquired from the very same milking equipment factory), and became the leading milk provider to the entire region, with the reputation of having the freshest milk around. Again, achieving an economic advantage using new technology. This dairy had become a TBO for short periods of time during its existence, while the milking equipment factory that had invented and manufactured the machinery was a TBO throughout the years. Explain the term â€Å"White Spaces† in the context of technological innovation. How could this term be used in an organization to help planning and decision making about innovation? White spaces are the two optional gaps between technologies and applications. The first gap exists when there is a need in the market but no solution to match it. The second gap takes place when there is a technology out there that has the capability to produce a technofact that no one knows what to do with. A technofact that did not yet find the â€Å"ultimate product† it enables (where there’s a way but there is no â€Å"will†). Innovative organization can either fill up the first gap by pursuing new technologies to match the unanswered market needs, or they can focus their efforts around understanding the potential of existing technologies and to use them to develop new groundbreaking applications. Outlines the dangers and risks associated with rapid technological development to society and individuals. Are you pessimistic or optimistic about it? What can and should we do as a society and as individuals to benefit from technology and avoid the risks. The dangers and risks that rapid emerging technologies incorporate can come in many ways, shapes and forms according to the technology domain. From the lose of privacy through health jeopardizing, moral issues and mass destruction weapons, they all have one thing in common – the rate of the technology adoption and development has become faster than the rate of the ability to comprehensively understanding its implications. Successful technologies are spreading swiftly, acquiring life of their own and â€Å"forcing† people to use them in order to survive in the modern society. Even if a certain individual decides to rebel and not to use a specific technology directly, it still might change the environment this person lives in, to affect and endanger im just the same (e. g. cellular phones). The lose of freedom inflicted by some technologies is a big price of its own that society and individuals have to pay. History tells us that panic from new technologies had always existed, and we are probably experiencing the same unjustified fear of the unknown that the car inflicted on society a hundred years ago. But the problem with history is that it can only explain the past, while the present is unlike anything humanity imagined before. I don’t believe that governmental regulations aiming to restrain technology can work in the long run, but in order to control at least some of the risks, governments should cooperate globally on some issues to regulate technologies similar to the way new medicines and drugs are treated. As individuals, we must take responsibility for our health and moral values, to deal with it at all times among ourselves, to be aware of the risks we are taking and not to become blind addicts for anything new. Still, I’m pessimistic as for the capability of mankind to do that and overcome its basic selfish nature.

It would seem, however, that history has forgotten the women of these times. What of the famous female thinkers of Ancient Greece, the distinguished stateswomen of Rome? What power did they hold? What was their position in societies of the distant past?
